SHARE presentation project: Kavo Gkreko Visitor Centre
Presentation’s theme: Building and landscape – A narrative in contextualism
Brief extract: The biggest challenge we faced in designing the building, revolved around the question of the appropriateness of its architecture within the context of the Place. The specific nature of the place and its materiality – the genius loci of Kavo Gkreko – served as the raw material, the stimuli for the formulation of the concept and design approach for the project; it thus formulated a critical concern for place-creation.
Elina Kritikou and Kenzo Yamashita, Co-Founders EKKY STUDIO ARCHITECTS will present “Breathing new life into the existing” including SEVEN Hotel Paris / MAP Hotel Nicosia/Villa the Cliff Hotel in Tunisia. All three projects involve redesigning, reusing, and rehabilitating existing buildings, highlighting the challenges of working with existing conditions and the beauty of revitalizing forgotten spaces. They emphasize sustainability through rethinking and repurposing existing elements like façade design and materials.
Each session will culminate in engaging discussions led by esteemed guests including Alkis Dikaios, President of the Cyprus Architects Association. Constantinos Constanti, President of the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK); Christos Christodoulou, Founder of SIMPRAXIS; Andreas Vardas, Founder of VARDASTUDIO and Eraclis Papachristou, Founder of Eraclis Papachristou Architects, all valued members of the SHARE Architects Society.
