Ο Σύλλογος Αρχιτεκτόνων Κύπρου στα πλαίσια της δραστηριοποίησης του για ανάδειξη, προβολή και διακίνηση ιδεών της σύγχρονης αρχιτεκτονικής σκέψης έχει την τιμή να φιλοξενεί για πρώτη φορά στα πολιτιστικά κυπριακά δρώμενα, μία από τις σημαντικότερες Εκθέσεις στον ευρωπαϊκό χώρο, την Έκθεση του Ιδρύματος Mies van der Rohe με τίτλο What’s Old What’s New. Η εν λόγω Έκθεση έχει ως βασικό στόχο την διάδοση των Βραβείων Σύγχρονης Ευρωπαϊκής Αρχιτεκτονικής και θα ταξιδέψει μόνο σε μερικές χώρες της Ε.Ε. συμπεριλαμβανομένου και της Κύπρου.

Το Βραβείο Σύγχρονης Αρχιτεκτονικής Mies van der Rohe, απονέμεται ανά διετία, σε έργα που ολοκληρώθηκαν τα προηγούμενα δύο χρόνια, αναδεικνύει την αριστεία, την δημιουργικότητα και την καινοτομία στην ευρωπαϊκή αρχιτεκτονική. Προβάλλει την καθοριστική συμβολή των ευρωπαίων Αρχιτεκτόνων στη δημιουργία νέων ιδεών, την ανάπτυξη νέων τεχνολογιών στη σύγχρονη αστική ανάπτυξη. Το βραβείο συγχρηματοδοτείται από το πρόγραμμα «Δημιουργική Ευρώπη» της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης και το Mies van der Rohe είναι το πιο σημαντικό βραβείο στην ευρωπαϊκή αρχιτεκτονική.

Η αρχιτεκτονική βρίσκεται στο επίκεντρο των δυναμικών πολιτιστικών και δημιουργικών κλάδων της Ευρώπης και η φιλοξενία της εν λόγω Έκθεσης στην Κύπρο χαρακτηρίζεται από τον Σύλλογο Αρχιτεκτόνων Κύπρου ως ένα γεγονός πολιτισμού, η οποία θα φέρει τους Αρχιτέκτονες, άλλες ειδικότητες και το ευρύτερο κοινό σε επαφή με νέες αντιλήψεις στον αρχιτεκτονικό σχεδιασμό και αφετέρου την ενημέρωση, συζήτηση για την οικοδόμηση της Ευρώπης στην σύγχρονη αρχιτεκτονική. Η Έκθεση What’s Old What’s New παρουσιάζει τα 383 υποψήφια έργα που υποβλήθηκαν στον Ευρωπαϊκό Διαγωνισμό Αρχιτεκτονικής 2019, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των διακριθέντων και βραβευθέντων έργων, έχει θεματική οργάνωση, προβάλλοντας μακέτες και οπτικοακουστικό περιεχόμενο.

Η Έκθεση What’s Old What’s New συνδιογανώνεται με τις Πολιτιστικές Υπηρεσίες του Υπουργείου Παιδείας και Πολιτισμού, θα φιλοξενείται στον εκθεσιακό χώρο της Κρατικής Πινακοθήκης Σύγχρονης Τέχνης ΣΠΕΛ στη Λευκωσία από τις 7 έως 25 Οκτωβρίου 2019. Ώρες Λειτουργίας Δευτέρα – Σάββατο 10:00 – 19:00. Η είσοδος θα είναι ελεύθερη για το κοινό

In the framework of its activities for the promotion and movement of ideas concerning contemporary architectural thought, the Cyprus Architects Association (CAA) is honoured to bring to Cyprus for the first time the exhibition by the Fundació Mies van der Rohe What’s Old What’s New – one of the most important exhibitions in Europe. The European Union Prize for contemporary architecture – Mies van der Rohe Award is granted biannually to works completed within the previous two years and brings prominence to excellence, creativity, and novelty in European architecture. The Prize highlights the decisive contribution of European Architects to the progression of new ideas and technologies in contemporary urban development. The Mies Prize is cofunded by the EU programme Creative Europe and is regarded as the most important prize in European Architecture.

Architecture lies at the centre of the dynamic cultural and creative fields of Europe; the CAA considers the arrival of the exhibition in Cyprus as a cultural event, bringing into contact architects, other experts, and the wider public with current views on architectural design. It further informs visitors and gives rise to discussions on the building up of Europe through Contemporary Architecture. What’s Old What’s New presents the 383 works nominated for the EU Architectural Competition 2019, amongst which the shortlisted and awarded works – it is thematically organised, displaying models and audiovisual material.

What’s Old What’s New is co-organised by the CAA and the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Culture and Education and will take place at the State Gallery of Contemporary Cypriot Art – SPEL in Nicosia. It opens on 7 October 2019 and runs through 25 October 2019. Opening hours: Monday – Saturday, 10:00 –19:00. Admission is free to the public. The opening of the exhibition,on Monday 7 October at 19:00, coincides with the International Day of Architecture and will be held in the presence of the director of Fundació Mies van der Rohe, Anna Ramos, and other esteemed guests.
