The Municipality of Limassol announces an International One-Stage Architectural Competition for the design and supervision of the construction of the “Limassol Arts Centre”, Tender No. 77/26.

The Limassol Arts Centre is envisioned as a contemporary cultural facility of strategic importance, designed to respond meaningfully to the needs of the artistic community and to support a broad spectrum of cultural activity, from production, research and collaboration to public participation.

The project goes beyond the design of another cultural building, aiming to create an open and dynamic organisation with a clear, timeless and recognisable architectural identity. The Limassol Arts Centre constitutes a key infrastructure for the implementation of the Limassol Cultural Strategy 2024–2034 and is expected to contribute actively to the cultural ecosystem of the city and Cyprus as a whole.

The project will be developed on the Epaminondas site, west of the Garyllis River, on Aiolou Street, in close proximity to the B’ Campus of the Cyprus University of Technology (CUT), within the area of the former Limassol General Hospital. The site forms part of the Municipality’s wider strategic plan for the creation of a coherent cultural network within the city.

The architectural proposal should create a flexible and adaptable environment that encourages collaboration, experimentation and knowledge exchange, incorporating spaces for work, production, rehearsals, technical support, artist residencies, digital creation and shared community activities. Emphasis is also placed on the long-term environmental, functional and economic sustainability of the facility, as well as on universal accessibility and cultural inclusivity.

Estimated Construction Cost: €25,500,000 excluding VAT.

ELIGIBILITY

The Competition is open to Architects holding a valid professional licence who are registered with the Cyprus Scientific and Technical Chamber (ETEK), or with the corresponding professional body in another EU or EEA Member State, or in other eligible countries as specified in the Competition Terms.

Multidisciplinary teams headed and coordinated by an eligible Architect, as well as design practices and private limited liability companies that meet the requirements set out in the Competition Terms, may also participate.

The official language of the Competition is English.

Subject to the terms and qualification requirements of the Competition, the Architect awarded the First Prize will be appointed to undertake the design development and supervision of the Project.
