The Cyprus Architects Association is organising a lecture on “Sukiya Tea Rooms” to be delivered by Toshifumi Saimon. This lecture is part of the Cyprus Architects Association’s Summer Workshop 2019, run by University of Nicosia faculty members. The event is hosted by the Municipality of Pafos, sponsored by Pavlos Pavlou Construction, and organized by Andreas Vardas and Yiorgos Hadjichristou.

Toshifumi Saimon, Japanese architect and specialist in restoration of historic buildings, will explain how the Sukiya Japanese Tea Rooms, which are famous architectural and cultural landmarks in Japan, have inspired the development of the contemporary scene of architecture worldwide. Toshifumi Saimon will also participate in Cyprus Architects Association’s Summer Workshop in Platres, held from July 2nd until July 12th, 2019.

Toshifumi Saimon
Toshifumi Saimon graduated from Musashino Art University, Department of Architecture, and SCI-ARC (Southern California Institute of Architecture) graduate school. After returning to Japan, he trained for 17 years under Master Fumifukuro Kaichiro of Kyoto, becoming independent in 2006. He specializes in design supervision of restoration of historic buildings, houses and shops, and ‘Sukiya’ tea room building and shrine or temple construction, with a wide interest in challenging new Japanese architecture as well as traditional design. He teaches in the Architecture Course at Kyoto Seika University, and is Director of the Kyoto Design Association.
